Next Generation Leaders Series: Advice for Students in the Arts

For POWarts third Next Generation Leaders program, we will be joined by Caitlin Crews, Pratt Institute graduate and Content Development, Design Template Lead at Adobe, Houda Lazrak, NYU graduate and Development Manager and Head of Communications at the International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP), and Hayley Ferber, RISD graduate and Deputy Director of Chashama. These speakers will discuss their graduate school experiences, how they navigated the job market, their current positions, as well as provide advice for undergraduates and recent master's degree graduates entering the art world.

Caitlin Crews is the Content Development, Design Templates Lead at Adobe. Her focus is on the advancement of creatives through design on the Adobe Stock Team. Caitlin is the lead for Black Employee Network in NYC for Adobe (BEN) and is a member of the Taking Action Task Force for Advocacy and Responsibility at Adobe. She is a graduate of Kent State University, where she majored in Photography, Art History and Creative Writing. Caitlin also received her Master’s in Arts and Cultural Management from Pratt Institute. Previously, she worked as a Curatorial Assistant at the Brooklyn Museum, and Nautica, where she was a still life photographer and retoucher. She was also a design and photo coordinator at Lord & Taylor and Victoria’s Secret. Her curatorial and community projects include Art 4 WTC (2017) Northside Festival Block Party (2013-2018), Brooklyn Public at World Trade Center Gallery (2015), Curatorial Assistant for Art in Odd Places RECALLed (2015). Caitlin has written for Got a Girl Crush Magazine, as well as a current member of the ISCP Young Patrons Committee.
Houda Lazrak is the Development Manager and Head of Communications at the International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP), New York’s most comprehensive international visual arts residency program, and the fourth largest worldwide. In her current role, she is responsible for the organization's overall fundraising activities. She spearheaded the growth of the Communications department since 2016, increasing its social media presence tenfold and securing press coverage from outlets including Artforum, ArtNews, New York Times, ArtAsiaPacific, Contemporary And, among others. Houda graduated with an MA in Museum Studies from New York University in 2016, and a BA from McGill University, Canada, in 2012. She was awarded a 2015 fellowship at the Humanities Research Program at New York University Abu Dhabi and is a founding Board member of the NYU Museum Studies Alumni Association. In addition, Houda has been a contributor to several platforms offering free online resources for urban and public art in cities around the world.
Hayley Ferber is a contemporary arts leader, educator and curator living in Brooklyn, New York. Her professional mission is to initiate and support creative opportunities in the arts. As Deputy Director of Chashama, a non-profit that repurposes unused real estate into artist studios and presentation spaces, she supports a creative community of multidisciplinary artists. With over 10 years of art teaching experience, Hayley has taught workshops at schools and organizations across NYC including the Swiss Institute and LMCC’s Art Center on Governors Island. Curatorial projects include co-leading a curatorial residency workshop series and exhibitions in partnership with Equity Gallery. Hayley received her MAT in Art & Design Education from the Rhode Island School of Design and BS in Studio Art from New York University. She is currently participating in the NYCT’s Non-profit Leadership Fellows program, serves on the board of the University Council for Art Educations as Vice President, POWArts’ Steering Committee and ArtTable’s Program’s Committee.
