Next Generation Leaders Series: Advice for Students in the Arts

Thursday, February 25, 7:00PM EST

For POWarts first Next Generation Leaders program, we will be joined by Andrea MorenoFIT graduate, researcher and collections manager; Jess FeldmanHunter College graduate, Development Coordinator for Institutional Giving, The Jewish Museum; and Kaitlyn WardSotheby's Institute of Art graduate, independent art consultant and curator. These speakers will discuss their graduate school experiences, how they navigated the job market, their current positions, as well as provide advice for undergraduates and recent master degree graduates entering into the art world.

Following this event, POWarts will host bi-monthly programs for students intending to pursue a career in the business of the visual arts.

Andrea Moreno is a recent graduate from FIT’s, Fashion and Textile Studies program. She gained her BA in Art History and Visual Culture from Denison University in Ohio. Working in collections management for private and museum fashion collections has allowed her to grow her skills in the art and fashion world. Her past work has been in curating contemporary art shows featuring photography and fiber arts, as well as working with artist archives and creating databases. Andrea is currently researching street fashion and its impact on fashion history and pop culture. She is also working as a collections manager for a luxury consignment store in New York City.

Jess Feldman is Development Coordinator for Institutional Giving at the Jewish Museum, where she fundraises for the museum's corporate membership program and general operating fund. From 2017-2020, she completed her MA in Art History at Hunter College, where she focused on photography and the Harlem Renaissance. She completed her thesis, "The Harlem Book of the Dead: Pan-Africanism, Funerary Portraiture, and the African-American Death" in July 2020. Prior to working at the Jewish Museum, she served as an Administrator and Cataloguer for the Prints & Drawings department at an auction house.

Kaitlyn Ward is a New York-based independent art consultant, curator, and member of the POWarts Steering Committee. Working in the arts for almost 10 years, Kaitlyn has a diverse background, with experience in both the non-profit and commercial sectors. Early in her career, she served as the Director of Target Gallery, the contemporary exhibition space for the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, VA. As Director, she worked with national and international artists at all stages in their careers, producing a total of thirty-five exhibitions over the course of her five-year tenure at the non-profit. After moving to New York to pursue her Masters in Art Business at Sotheby’s Institute of Art, and graduating with honors in 2018, Kaitlyn has since worked with The Winter Show, Sara Kay Gallery, and Jay Grimm Art Advisory in both project management and marketing roles. She also continues to support emerging and mid-career artists, curating exhibitions at Sotheby’s Institute and Spring Break Art Show, and managing an exhibition and art loan program for a number of corporate clients in midtown Manhattan.
