For 2022, POWarts continues the Trailblazers series featuring members of our community who are breaking barriers, working to make the art world more equitable, and paving the wave for the next generation.
Join us as we hear from Stephanie Baptist, Founder and Director of Medium Tings, a roving gallery and project space for art and dialogue, centering around emerging Black artists. Stephanie will discuss past and future exhibitions, public art projects, and collaborations at Medium Tings, as well as her experiences as an independent curator and cultural producer.

Stephanie Baptist is the founder and Director of Medium Tings, a roving gallery and project space for art and dialogue, centering around emerging Black artists. The gallery focuses on exhibitions, public art and collaborations to encourage experimentation and sustainability. As an independent curator and cultural producer for more than 10 years, she has collaborated with noted contemporary artists and organizations in the US, Europe and Africa. Stephanie has worked as a curator for Meta's Open Arts in New York and has served as Head of Exhibitions for Tiwani Contemporary in London. She is the editor of Àsìkò: On the Future of Artistic and Curatorial Pedagogies in Africa, and a 2019 Women in Power Fellow for 92Y in New York. Stephanie is a current mentor for New Inc., and has served as a reviewer for Art Omi, The International Center of Photography, and Parsons School of Design, and The Shed. Stephanie holds an MA in Arts Administration and Cultural Policy from Goldsmiths, University of London and is based in Brooklyn.
