Join Hayley Ferber, Deputy Director of Chashama, in discussing the current state of arts employment with insights from art career professionals including Hillary Burchfield, Director of Career Services at Sotheby’s Institute of Art, Molly Martin, Director of Sales and Communication at NYFA, and Karline Moeller, co-founder of Art Frankly. This conversation will address long term effects of the pandemic, maintaining work/life balance, capitalizing on transferable skills during career transitions, and diversity and transparency in the workplace.

Hayley Ferber is a contemporary arts leader, educator and curator living in Brooklyn, New York. Her professional mission is to initiate and support creative opportunities in the arts. As Deputy Director of Chashama, a non-profit that repurposes unused real estate into artist studios and presentation spaces, she supports a creative community of multidisciplinary artists. With over 10 years of art teaching experience, Hayley has taught workshops at schools and organizations across NYC including the Swiss Institute and LMCC’s Art Center on Governors Island. Curatorial projects include co-leading a curatorial residency workshop series and exhibitions in partnership with Equity Gallery. Hayley received her MAT in Art & Design Education from the Rhode Island School of Design and BS in Studio Art from New York University. She is currently participating in the NYCT’s Non-profit Leadership Fellows program, serves on the board of the University Council for Art Educations as Vice President, POWArts’ Steering Committee and ArtTable’s Program’s Committee.

Hillary Burchfield is the Director of Career Services at Sotheby’s Institute of Art, where she advises students on career development, job searching, and best professional practices, and connects them with influential representatives from all corners of the industry. Hillary has spent over a decade in the New York art world within various leading arts organizations. Hillary received her MA in Art Business from Sotheby’s Institute of Art-New York, then spent six years at Gagosian Gallery, where she worked closely with the sales, events, and executive team on many notable exhibitions, public and private events, and private sales. Hillary is also the Founder & President of Hillary Burchfield LLC, a fine arts executive recruitment and search firm. Her firm has consulted with leading international arts organizations on staffing and organizational structure an design, as well as diversity and inclusion initiatives. She has been integral to the career development and candidate recruitment for positions ranging in level from internship programs to executive hires. Hillary has built strong teams for notable galleries, artist studios and foundations, communications firms, art fairs, logistics and storage organizations, and art advisories.

Molly Martin is an arts professional currently working in digital advertising and communications. Molly entered the non-profit arts space after starting her career as a Paid Search Marketing Analyst for a digital advertising agency. She now works for the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA), a non-profit dedicated to providing resources to artists, where she leads the Sales and Communications team. Her work is focused on broadening NYFA’s digital reach/impact through social media, engaging content, advertising, and relevant jobs/opportunities for artists.

Karline Moeller is the CEO of Art Frankly, a platform for the global arts community to find jobs and discover opportunities. Before founding Art Frankly, Karline ran the New York office for the Cy Twombly Foundation. She also co-owned Moeller Snow Gallery, worked in the Contemporary department at Sotheby’s and was assistant director at Nyehaus gallery. In 2012 Karline co-founded the Mana Residencies at Mana Contemporary in Jersey City, NJ. Karline continues to work closely with the artists in residence and she contributes actively to the curatorial programming at Mana.
