About Susan J Mumford
Susan J Mumford is a values-centred entrepreneur, speaker and author who has established a career providing networks and solutions for professionals in the 21st Century art world.
Her first grown-up venture was operating a gallery, art dealership and advisory (2004-2013). In 2009 while running an associated gallery in Soho, London, she founded the Association of Women Art Dealers (AWAD), an international non-profit membership network that facilitates business and collaborations with members operating to high professional standards. This was followed in 2012 by the development of Be Smart About Art, an online-accessible professional development platform based out of London that helps creative professionals thrive in a changing world. In late 2015, her first book was published in the name of BSAA’s motto: Art is your life. Make it your living. Earlier in 2019 she launched artaml, a technology-based solution to help art dealers keep dealing while tackling anti-money laundering legislation hitting the EU in early 2020 (including the UK regardless of Brexit).
Susan is also an equality advocate who lectures on conscious, unconscious and intersectional bias and wrote the foreword for the book Mum’s Not the Word, published in May 2019.
Based in Lewes, East Sussex, Susan works locally, in London, around the UK, the USA, Continental Europe and online, running workshops, lectures and courses, delivering 1-2-1 sessions, facilitating panel discussions, judging prizes and more.
